“I’ve had bad experiences, but I wouldn’t go back and try to change them”- Maureen reflects on age and wellbeing

Our Community Correspondents recently interviewed each other as part of our age and wellbeing theme. Today we share Maureen’s reflections.

Do you know what? I’ve had some bad experiences, but I wouldn’t go back and try to change them. You can’t change the past.

As I’ve got older I’ve learned a lot. That’s mostly good, but there’s a sting in the tail of self awareness. It doesn’t always feel good.

If my younger self could see my now, I think she’d have a lot to say. Don’t settle for what you think you deserve. Believe in yourself. Don’t strive for perfection.

And she’d be right. As I get older, I feel much more independent. I’m much more aware of my own needs and I can see my own abilities. It feels good.
