It started with… A visual story from Carol

On Wednesday 3rd August, Mind Waves ran the final workshop from our four week creative non-fiction series, funded by GVCS Wellbeing Fund. We met face to face, over snacks and cups of tea, and tried some writing prompts. The afternoon was full of interesting chat about mental health, creative non-fiction and using personal writing to centre our narrative and tell our own stories. This week on the blog, we have a visual story created by Carol and inspired by one of the prompts from the workshop. Find the prompt, and Carol’s interpretation, below!

It started with a bike ride into Edinburgh. I headed for my usual spot to park the bike at Edinburgh Uni. A quick rummage in the rucksack for my lock. Oh-no. No lock. Took it out yesterday for the Mind Waves workshop 😩 All not lost though. Tasty Mind Waves treat from yesterday retrieved from rucksack (on saddle in pic – long gone now 🐷)

Undeterred by lack of lock, bike came in with me to Mother India for a tasty aloo sag dosa to be enjoyed on a bench in Princes Street Gardens. Who needs bike locks 😂

A big thank you to Carol for continuing the spirit of the workshop and using the prompts to document your day! And another big thank you to everyone who came along to the zoom workshops or the face to face meet up  Mind Waves are always looking for submissions for the blog, whether it’s poetry, writing, photographs, or a combination of things.
