Happy Landings!

Inverclyde GlobetrottersThe Inverclyde Globetrotter’s Mission Lunar Trek Accomplished!

At 21.36 Greenock Mean Time on Friday 13 September 2013, 2 years and 13 days after it was launched and thanks to the help of 100 individuals and groups from all over Scotland our Lunar Trek module, ig1, sponsored by Scotland’s Health Charity, Chest Heart & Stoke Scotland, landed softly back on Earth to successfully complete the 477,714 mile walk to the Moon and back.

The Lunar Trek follows in the “footsteps” of NASA’s Apollo 8, the first manned spacecraft to orbit the Moon in 1968.  Apollo 8’s mission lasted only 6 days Lunar Trek imagebut they had a bigger rocket.

We were honoured when renowned astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore CBE, FRS, FRAS, kindly agreed to be the Patron of the Lunar Trek back in 2011.  Sadly he died on 9 December 2012 before our mission was complete.  We dedicate the Lunar Trek to his memory.

Footnote:  Using the power of our new craft, World Walking (www.worldwalking.org) our next mission (code name “Mission (Not) Impossible”), powered by people around the globe, to walk 48.7 million miles to join NASA’s Exploration Rover on Mars.  Don’t miss out on this journey of a lifetime.
