I feel free when I am on horseback. The feeling of exhilaration when you are galloping through woodland is one of the best. You and the horse in harmony, acting as one. The horse trusts you to know where you are going and you trust the animal to follow your instructions without any fear.
The sight of trees rushing past inches from your face, the smell of the pines and flowers filling your nose, the sunlight on your back as you burst through the shadows into an open glade all make you feel that it is good to be alive.
Suddenly a fallen tree lies across the path and you and your nag take off in jump. Feeling as if you are floating, suspended between land and sky, you hang for a heartbeat. Only the sound of the birds and your own heart thumping fills your ears and then in one flowing motion you hit the ground, breaking into the wild rush once again.
God is in heaven and all is right with the world.
