Mindwaves and GAMH come together for the Autumn Festival – a perfect way to mark the end of summer

On Monday 8th October our Community Correspondents did something a bit different for our monthly meeting, joining forces with GAMH (Glasgow Association for Mental Health) for the Autumn Festival.

The gathering took place in Bellahouston Park’s Demonstration Gardens, home to a number of allotments used by a range of community groups from across Glasgow. It’s a really magical space and you instantly feel calm and safe as soon as you enter the walled gardens. GAMH have a wonderful plot there which has been cultivated and designed by service users, carers, staff and volunteers.

We all enjoyed a fantastic lunch together, including some amazing pakoras and tasty cakes! People were chatting about how they sometimes struggle through the winter months and how great it was to have a reason to get outside and be around other people.

The event had a really laidback feel with no pressure – everyone was just mulling around and doing different things. There was a poly tunnel where you could do crafts or make your own wind chimes out of natural materials. There was also a wee potting shed where you could plant your own herbs in a cute colourful pot.

One of the highlights was the opportunity to take part in a fun, relaxed sing-along. A woman played the guitar and there were loads of lovely tunes. At first some people were just standing watching, but by the end everyone had sang along with at least one song.

The weather was changeable, but a lot less so than last year. It was such a great way to mark the end of summer.
